Why I Don’t Make New Year’s Resolutions Anymore…

Scale, measuring tapeI definitely used to be that person. You know, the one who would totally pig out for the entire months of November and December and than set these ridiculously unrealistic goals for the new year.

I would then either force myself to go to the gym or start whatever new fad diet was out there.

Of course you probably guessed by now that I would join millions of other people who’d break the new year resolutions before January was even over.

So, why don’t New year resolutions work?? Well, I don’t think there is a simple answer for this – but I’ll share my thoughts.

I think it all comes down to your mindset. Are you looking to make a short term change? Lose extra weight you may have gained over the holidays? Or, are you looking to make a long term lifestyle change to actually improve your overall health and wellness?

For me personally, long lasting changes didn’t happen until I made a commitment to my health. It was when I stopped focusing on just the weight loss and started focusing on how I felt physically and mentally.

The better I felt, the more I enjoyed exercising and eating healthy. The more research I did on the effects different types of foods have on my body, the more motivated and inspired I felt to keep making changes and sticking with them.

Do you feel like your mindset is what’s keeping you from ditching those resolutions and committing to long term change?

I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below
