Spiritual Significance of the Spring Equinox

In the Northern hemisphere, Spring Equinox is the day winter ends and spring begins. This year, Spring Equinox will take place on March 20th, 2022. On this day, the Sun moves into the sign of Aries, beginning a new zodiac cycle.

what is spring equinox

The word Equinox comes from Latin and the literal meaning is “equal night and day”. Spring Equinox is also known as Vernal, meaning “of the new”, “spring”, “fresh”. On this day we expereince equal amount of light and dark, with the sun being directly above us. The Spring Equinox is a turning point when light begins to overtake darkness.

This is the time of the year when we begin to see nature waking up, we expereince increased energy and creative force within ourselves, we start to feel more productive.

Spiritual significance

It is believed that during the time of Equinox, the veil between physical and spiritual realms is thinning, allowing us deeper connection to our intuition and divine guidance.

This is a time for us to clean out stagnant energies to make room for fresh and new ideas. It is a festival of awakening and re-birth, spring cleaning in literal and spiritual sense.

As we move into the Cardinal fiery sign of Aries, we feel the energy of excitement over starting new projects. Aries starts a new journey around the Zodiac wheel, which is a perfect time to re-prioritize you goals.

With day and night being equal, this is a time of bringing balance back into your life.

Nature and human connection

Since we are one with nature, this is the time of our inner spring as well, an awakening time for our spirit.

This is a good time to plant your metaphorical seeds. You may feel overwhelmed with this new awakened energy and all the ideas buzzing in your head.

Rather than feeling stressed over, try new ideas out! Think about what excited you, what do you feel drawn towards? Have fun with it.

If you still find yourself feeling overwhelmed, this is a great time for you to connect with nature. Spend more time outside, try earthing (walking barefoot on the ground/grass), mediate and journal under a tree. These activities will help you gain clarity and focus, and empower you to transform your life
